# 8.3 Utilizing UDP

The User Datagram Protocol (UDP) operates as a protocol in the Transport Layer, forming a crucial part of the Internet Protocol suite (UDP/IP suite). Unlike TCP, UDP lacks reliability and operates in a connectionless manner, eliminating the need for prior connection establishment before initiating data transmission.&#x20;

Similar to the process of establishing a connection with TCP, connecting via UDP involves entering the IP Address and Port Number, as shown in the following screen.

<figure><img src="/files/GAX1SP7wNYSwtvg7MzPP" alt=""><figcaption><p>UDP port connect</p></figcaption></figure>

Clicking the Connect button prompts the display of a connection progress screen, resembling the presentation observed during the drone connection using TCP.

Upon successful connection, a notification will confirm " **Communication Link Established**," and the top bar of the screen will change to a vibrant green color.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://aerogcs-orange-docs.aeromegh.com/8.-connecting-a-drone/8.3-utilizing-udp.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
